Abstract

Social determinants in Ecuador are a challenge for public health, since different mechanisms cause the economic, social and political context in which social groups live to promote the appearance of diseases. The objective of the study is to analyze how the social determinants affect the diseases in the territory of Ecuador during the year 2019. Given the importance of recognizing the social determinants that affect the health of the Ecuadorian population in the year 2019, it was decided to use a documentary review methodology through a qualitative research approach. The results of the research show that among the main causes of morbidity and mortality in Ecuador during 2019, diabetes mellitus, cerebrovascular diseases, ischemic heart diseases, hypertensive disease, and influenza and pneumonia stand out. In conclusion, the social determinants of health in the inhabitants of Ecuador are affected by economic, demographic and social factors. Although they affect the entire population, they have a greater impact on the lower social strata due to their greater vulnerability.
