Abstract

This literature review explores the most relevant discussions on the relationship between play and the development of basic motor skills in early childhood. The methodology responds to the narrative review and is processed with the thematic analysis method. An advanced search was carried out with the terms "basic motor skills", "play" and "childhood" in Dialnet, Scielo, Redalyc, ProQuest, Web of Science and institutional repositories, using four search equations adapted to each database. After reading the results, 39 research studies in Spanish and English published in the last five years were selected. It is evident that play and physical activity are the main proposals for the development of basic motor skills. The results suggest that game promotes early childhood development of basic motor skills, as well as cognitive, emotional and social aspects, highlighting its relevance in children's pedagogy.
